Im going to let jbobs chime in on that one. Im in a very different climate then u r. Im in northern KY so raise most of my birds in the spring and summer months and temps here r probably a bit more milder then yours right now. As jbobs is from Canada the springs there r probably cooler or closer to yours. Im sure he will b around shortly and I assure u that u can trust any info he gives u on this. He knows what he is doing.

They can go out into their outdoor rabbit hutch when they are 6 weeks old. By then, they should be fully feathered and you should not be using any more heat in their indoor brooder. But if at 6 weeks you are having a huge cold snap, you can always put the heat lamp out in the hutch with them a few feet above their heads, for SOME added warmth. They will use it if they need it or won't if they don't. You can keep this added heat on for a week or two and then they shouldn't need any more heat after that as they will have adjusted to colder temps. 

You can brood them together quite well. However the Coturnix are going to mature up in 6 - 8 weeks, where as the Gambels won't be mature until fall. So as the Cots go into breeding mode, they may fight with the Gambels or visa versa. So be prepared for anything! And especially be ready with new quarters for the Gambels when the Cots mature. 

I am gonna ask a question.  I doubt it is usable but has anyone used corn cob bedding for these little ones?  I have some finches and that is what I use in their cages so I thought I would see...been using newspaper and some shaving but just wanting to know for curiosity purposes. :)

I have never used it, but others have. So go ahead and give it a try. I hear that it is quite absorbant.
