I'm an obsessive planner to a fault, so being in control and ahead of the game is my goal. I figure with a year to plan i'll have all my "chickens in a coop" come my time as Mother Hen wink.png

i see from your siggy you have Great Danes. How are they with your feathered flock? our friends recently got a GD pup and he is such an awesome dog. DH wants to get our girls a puppy for Christmas (you know, the whole pup in a box under the tree... SURPRISE!) and we're leaning to a GD, but am unsure of how they're with chickens.

Hey there STM060929...thank you for the invite to your thread.

Once you've read the entire thread, you'll se that I've put a lot of thought and planning into my coop design. I knew from the start where it was going to be located in my yard; so the design is encompassed within those parameters. I kow that someday I'll move and be on land out in the country, the coop is therefore portable, but not without a bit of effort. And it is designed so that it is very accessable, should I need to do major repairs to it. I can lift the roof and make additions, it can be sectioned so that I can used part of it as a brooder to introduce young birds to older birds in the flock.

If I could include anything to the design...it would be a 4 season internal watering & feeding system. Most of the time the birds will have access to the out of doors, but there are times of the year that we have -20 degree weather for extended periods. It would nice to have the option of locking them up in the coop for a few days to weather out the stormy stuff. I do have ideas, but as yet they have not been tested and applied.

Thank you very much for your interest in my project; I hope that all your coop plans and breed selections work out for your family and that you throughly enjoy keeping backyard poultry. cool.png
