I'm new to this site and i've never had chickens but I really want them. I would like to buy Speckled Sussex chicks. Anyone have any tips?

Welcome to BYC from BC!

And have you tried looking in your local area for them? Maybe a feed store has a lead on a breeder, or they might even know of a chicken swap where breeders might be. Good luck on your hunt.

SAHM with two great boys, and the best husband ever.

1 Rhode Island Red, 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Leghorn, 1 Silver Spangled Hamburg, 1 Light Brahma, 1 polish, 1 buff Orpington and 2 Wyandottes (1 GL, 1BLR) And 1 barnyard special that seems to be brahmaish (the one and only egg that hatched in our science experiment)

dreaming of a bigger place and more girls......

Hello and welcome-byc.gif
You need for the chicks: feed, water, a brooder (can be a cardboard box, doesn't have to be fancy) and a heat lamp.
Watch out for things like poo on their bums when you first get them.
Sometimes chicks get sick: it sometimes isn't your fault if one falls ill.
And feed a lot of treats, they will grow to like you!

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have in Raising baby chicks. Enjoy the site. smile.png
