UK Member Please Say HI

Hello everyone. I'm in Suffolk, UK, and have a tiny flock of barbezieux x Bresse Gauloise chooks. I am currently looking for a few more barbezieux - hatching eggs preferably, to add into my flock for wider gene pool. If anyone knows where I can get barbezieux, please let me know.

hello @Mustang4 , welcome to BYC :frow

Ask Mathew Roynon, he's secretary of the Rare Breed Poultry Club in the UK and is most likely to be able to help.

edited to add, I have a Barbezieux x Swedish Flower hen, looks mostly like a Barbie and lays nice white eggs, and could supply her eggs to hatch if you get desperate. The roo would be a Swedish Flower or a Penedesenca x Araucana or a Swedish Flower x Penedesenca, so they would widen your gene pool considerably, perhaps much more than you wanted :hmm

Heads up UK chicken keepers: Farming Today reported that, from October, all backyard chickens (and pigeons etc.) will have to be registered with DEFRA, not just those flocks over 50-strong.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001xdpr short mention from 4.20 mins into the programme.

I can't find anything on the DEFRA website about it, but the govt website search function is abysmal, and presumably something will appear soon, especially if it requires keepers to obtain a CPH number first (as has traditionally been required for flocks over 50).

Edited to add, Shad found it! https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-measures-to-help-protect-poultry-industry-from-bird-flu

Looking to rehome our 2 cockerels! I’m in Huddersfield UK and we haven’t had much luck searching for a new home, they unfortunately don’t get along well with our geese but other than that are very well behaved and put themselves to bed on a night, they’re a very funny pair and would love for them to go to a good home 💕 completely free if you can pick them up
