I know I'm bad aren't I :smack

They are pure polish but the parent birds were mixed colours. I had a blue splash boy with gold lace girls. All the chicks that hatched from their eggs were blue.
I also had a silver lace frizzle boy with chamois, white crested black and gold lace girls. They took after either the father or mother or were solid black or solid white. Mixing it up a bit produces some interesting colours.

Hi all, I live in Teesdale County Durham.

I have been mouching around this forum for a while now enjoying the table bird threads.

There is just so much going on in this forum
It's great.

Hi there, welcome :frow

I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the table bird section, I'm afraid it's not a section I really get round to. I would though if my polish were a bit more meaty.

Thanks YC,

I currently have 3 breeding flocks
La Bresse, Dark Indian Game Cornish and Welsummer.

I breed pure Welsummer and have a dark egg project of crossing them with Cuckoo Marans which makes sex linked chicks and better layers than both breeds keeping lovely dark brown eggs.

The other project I have going is to breed the ultimate roasting bird, ha.

Hi Kim

Lovely to see a photo of you out riding Harry and to hear that he has bonded so well with his new companion. Hope the dentistry was successful and went smoothly.

The photos of your chicks especially, are absolutely gorgeous, but the pullets are very attractive too and I'm sure you will have no problem selling them. Chicks are just so desperately cute though!

Hi Dave and welcome from a bit further north.

Very interested in your Marans/Welsummer project. I like both breeds, so the combination certainly appeals and a great idea for a dual purpose sex link. What stage are you at with it? Are you getting consistent results? I'm not into raising table birds per see but do process my excess cockerels. Are you a commercial producer/breeder or is it just a small scale hobby project at the moment? Do you sell birds/hatching eggs? I might be interested for next year, especially as you are relatively local.

Look forward to hearing more about your set up.

Regards

Barbara

Hi Barbara
No its just a hobby, i just like messing about breeding a few

Yes the results are consistent as the chicks are sex linked with the marans being barred.
So hens hatch black and end up being a dark hazel brown (we call them Bishop Browns) and cockerels hatch black with a white spot on there heads and end up being barred.
I dont think there would be enough meat on the cockerels to warrent rearing them so i cull at day old.
Yes i will be breeding more next year and am also going to try crossing the Bishop Browns back to the Welsummer to make Hazle hens with gold necks.

Nice looking bird there @Dave C

Hi Barbara!

Have you been riding today? I didn't manage to get out with one thing or another, I feel a bit pants today. Got a pounding head that I just can't seem to shift :sick
Vet coming on Monday to do harrys dodgy teeth and I'm not looking forward to getting the bill. Harry had to have his vaccination a couple of weeks ago and just for that £100.52  The vet that does teeth wasn't available when his vac was due :rant
