Siding Question

I want to use wood siding (I think it's called T1-11?) and I was wondering whether it needs to be nailed to another board (like plywood or OSB) or if it's thick/sturdy enough to be coop walls on it's own.  I live in central NC so it doesn't usually get too cold here.  As always, thanks for the help!

I was also going to use T1-11 also but my local lumberyard manager & friend recommends that I use Smartboard.  I looks very similar to T1-11 but is a composite that comes primed & ready to paint.  He said it will last longer & will not warp or swell if it gets wet.  So, I think I am going to use it instead.  It is comparable in price & won't take as much paint since it is already primed.  I will be siding my coop this next weekend, weather permitting.  So if you can wait I should have more pics up next week.

It's plenty strong enough to attach directly to studs.

I agree with AtholCoop, just nail it straight to the studs, no backer board needed.  Mine is nailed to the studs and it has never given me nay trouble.  Just make sure you get it water tight.
