Border Collie X Cattle dog cross puppy - Ivomec or Interceptor ?????????????? - Page 2

Shelties can be fatally sensitive.  We lost ours at 12 from a dosage for ear mites after tolerating Ivermectin earlier in life.

I've been looking all over the internet trying to figure out what happened to my border collie shepherd cross and just have to post this. My vet changed both my dogs heartworm medication to interceptor spectrum this spring because  it also kills fleas, etc and is considered "better"  than what we were using. I gave my  border collie shepherd cross the   chew  about 4:pm and 12 hours later she was dead. I also gave the same dose at the same time to my beagle, and she is fine. Needless to say I am devastated. I'd never heard anything about any dogs having any sensitivity to Interceptor spectrum and my vet didn't mention anything about collies.  I have found no other posting about interceptor spectrum being fatal but I felt in good conscience I had to post what happened to my girl here.

Interceptor does not contain any ivermectin in it. It's active ingredient is milbemycin oxime. Collies and crosses can be sensitive to ivermectin containing heartworm preventative (most commonly Heartguard or one of the generics).
