41 eggs in the incubator and the power went out!

Number four is out now! Our first blonde! One of the black ones is tiny, not opening eyes, and I think has a bit of intestines hanging out, (he had the yolk sac attached as well)

Where are you located? I actually have more fertile eggs I'm ready to set as soon as these are done. If you are close, I'll pass em out! Nothing like facilitating a healthy addiction! Lol

My husband is gonna s*** a brick! LOL He says Im an addict, and the girls are just as bad as I am....Well now there are some addictions I am just fine with passing down! If none buys the chicks or hens, we will have eggs to eat and sell...If no one buys them, I'll not have a single friend want for eggs as long as I have laying hens...And if we ever have to move to a place that doesn't accept chickens, our freezer will be full.

Ashley I am in Maryland so not to many states away from you. Your tiny black one may not make it then sorry to say. Just keep me informed on how things are going.

That's too bad. Yeah I don't expect it will unfortunately. Day 20...I think I've really screwed up this lock down thing. My humidity was up to 78 and I have two chicks with unabsorbed yolk sacs, (one with a tiny bit of intestines hanging out). I'm upset cause my girls are watching too. Four seem very healthy so far. Pretty sure I let the humidity get too high. Reading so much information from so many different places. I overloaded my brain. Hoping tomorrow will be better for the rest of the clutch.

78 during lockdown won't hurt your eggs or hatching. I try for 70 plus during lockdown and hatch.

The one that still has the yolk sac attached did chicks rolling his egg around help him hatch.

Day 19 for pips is a tad early but in range. Thinking maybe your incubator ran a degree or 2 high on temp.

Maybe it went a little too high and I didn't realize it? The first one with yolk sac attached was the first to hatch so no...The other one yes was rolled by chicks. I have read so many opinions and things that work for people that differ...I'm exhausted trying to figure it out

How did your eggs progress, Ashely....or did they....after power went out?

28/41 were definitely fertile and growing. 1 ended up having a blood ring, 3 died with yolk sac attached still after birth, 1 egg exploded, 1 died at two or three days old (TSC chicks do that, I didn't expect ALL of them to make it). Of the 22 that were left after those, we had 12 healthy happy chicks out of there.

We also had a 4 foot healthy snake lurking around...

After all that work, We have ONE left.

We left the chicks all in a pool in my laundry room while we ran errands for a few hours...9 we found in the belly of a black rat snake, 2 had been scared to death, and only 1 survived.

OMG! Ashley....I am so sorry that after all of that the snake ate them and scared the others to death. I so hope you try this again. I hatched one out of 7 in an incubator then my hen set on 9 of her eggs and 6 of them hatched 3 days ago. Thats about all I can do for now. I did find a snake in the outside pen of these little chics and luckily I got rid of it before there was any harm.
