Nevermind! I know that it was my fault, thank you all for pointing that out. and I removed my post...because I am very upset and don't need any more uncompassionate comments.

I would suggest to EVERYONE to think before you speak and have more compassion for those that come here looking for support and need your help. Use common sense and treat others how you would be treated! I see alot of posts going unanswered and I think it's very rude!

I have been coming to BYC for a long time now, and have found how rude people are to eachother and actually quit coming for a while because of it. Over something like spelling and grammar! I have been raising chickens for 5 years, love it, love my chickens and I do take very good care of my chickens and accidents will happen to the best of us.

Good Bye!

Keep the cat!!! It's a cat's natural instinct to go after anythink small and wiggly. It wasn't you or your cat's fault. Forgive you cat and keep a better watch over you chicks. Good luck with your chicks, esp. the injured one.

I'm not a cat person. Easy call for me. Get rid of or kill cat. I am a dog lover. My advice would still be the same if it had been your dog.

ChickenPerson was right it was the cats natural instincts. My buddies cat catches and kills wild birds all the time.

I have had up to 50 barn cats and they NEVER attack my chickens which are free range.  I keep them very well fed and they are used to the chickens and guineas roaming around.  As a matter of fact, they allow the chickens to steal a few bites of their cat food from the big bowl in the barn.  Maybe you could expose the cat to some full grown chickens, a big bunch of them, and let him get used to them?

What would you do?

I'd keep the chicks in a safe place until they are big enough that the cat won't bother them

We have a cat that kills wild birds all the time.  He won't bother our grown chickens, but I never let him get anywhere near the chicks because they don't look any different to him than the wild birds he terrorizes regularly.  That's just a cat's instinct.

So sorry for your loss.

Don't get rid of the cat. He didn't do anything wrong. He doesn't deserve to lose his home and family.

Chalk it up to experience and keep your chicks in a place where the cat has no access.

I guess I don't understand. Your pet cat, who you presumably love, killed a small bird. Which is in his or her nature. You would even consider getting rid of the cat instead of making sure the cat couldn't access chicks any more? I love my chickens, and I love my cats. I would no more hold killing chick against a cat than I would killing a slug against a chicken.

Two of my cats ignore my chickens; one is their "buddy" and loves to hang out with them. NONE of them ever get access to chicks.

I'm sorry for your loss, but a cat is a cat as much as a chicken is a chicken.
