columbian rock cross - Page 2

So are these birds not bred strictly for meat? I recently got one and looked them up to get more information and was reading they grow super fast and are for meat, so much so that they put on meat much faster than their internal organs can keep up so if not butchered they often die of heart failure. Now I'm wondering if I accidentally clicked into some site that were talking about Cornish Rock, instead of Columbian Rock. I have been about to give her away but am now reconsidering. If anyone can set me straight I would surely appreciate it!
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Ps. 34:8. Family: Hubbie Mark, 1 Sheltie, 1 Blk Australorpe, 1 Blk Copper Marans, 1 Blk Ameraucana, 1 Blue Marans, 1 Welsummer, 1 Cream Crested Legbar, 1 Golden Comet, 1 RIR & 3 Easter Eggers.

You did get it wrong. And you are right. Let me try again. Cornish are the fast growers. Colombian cross are the dual purpose. My girls lay real well and when they are finished they will be meaty enough to enjoy in a pot.

Heather, that is such a relief. I must have been reading about the Cornish because multiple sites warned about raising them for eggs, stating few and inconsistent egg laying, ravishing appetite, enormous "golf ball sized droppings" and legs often too weak to hold them up due to their weight. I will believe I wound up reading about a different breed and keep "Dinner" as we have been calling her. : /
Thank you for your clarification!

Here are my two rock cross columbian. they love rosting.. This is my Laverne & Shirley. I'm guessing both pullets.... Well I'm hoping

I'm a mother of 3 wonderful children, but every mom says that. I'm a grandmother to two beautiful girls. and a wife to a loving husband. I have 3 dogs that I love as much as my children and now I'm a chicken MOM, and love my girls. Raising chickens is fun, and so far I'm doing a great job.
