Old FarmMaster single-tray, still-air incubator - Page 2

The porcelain heating element actually sits outside of the incubator and yes, it does heat the water filled copper pipes (with absolutely no incubator experience, it took me hours to figure that one out).  The porcelain heating element sits within the copper boiler which is covered by the galvanized "heat shield".  The copper boiler is connected to a copper pipe, approximately 2.5 inches in diameter, that passes through the redwood and then runs the inside perimeter of the incubator at the top.

Thanks for the pictures. I think the black tubes are for holding water. That's how the kerosene/oil incubators work. The flame heats tubing with water in it, and the warm water circulates through the tubes inside of the incubator.

I am thinking now that the cheese cloth may be to keep the chicks from getting out of the hatching tray.

In the beginning there was nothing. God said, Let there be light! And there was light. There was still nothing, but you could see it a whole lot better. Ellen DeGeneres
also//////// Y'all also need to check out my homemade cooler incubator, my homemade fridge-a-bator, and my cabinet incubator on my BYC page.

Yessir, I figured out it was a boiler/radiator type heating system after thinking about how they heated my old elementary school that was built in the 50's.  I am glad to hear your hypothesis about the cheese cloth tray because that is what I had thought it was for too!  I finished all the rewiring yesterday and was able to get it into the basement last night.  Filled it up with water, put an initial setting on the thermostat and let it roll.  Took about 2.5 hours to bring the temp up about 25 degrees (65 to 90)....thats a bit faster than I thought it would.  Since this was the first time it has ran with all the new wiring I adjusted the thermostat down at that point to keep it at 90 and keep it from running constantly while I was asleep.  Thanks again for all your helpful information.
