A friend gave me 8 Orpington hatching eggs.
I set them last night.
I added a remote thermometer / hydrometer to the tray
Where the eggs sit, in the back of the tray. I have 2 rows
Of 4 eggs and then the front row is empty.
My issue is this:
When the incubator is flat. The remote unit reads a
steady 99.7F the thermometer that comes with the unit
Is located up top just under the fan and reads 100.5F
This is fine.
When I turn the unit 45 degrees forwad (to turn the eggs)
The remote unit is elevated above egg lvl and reads 99.9F
When I turn the unit 45 degrees away from me, the remote
Unit is lower than the eggs and reads 98.4F this is not good.
So half the eggs are above and half the eggs are below ideal
Temperature of 99.5F
I know incubators have a variation of temp due to the whole
Heat rising cold sinking thing, but I thought the fan, which is working,
would compensate for this.
Anyway, I'm sure I'm just obsessing but should I
1. Leave things as they are
2. Bump up the temp a hair
3. Leave the unit flat and hand turn eggs( which then
Means the temp will drop a few times a day when I open
and I think the whole reason for the turning the entire unit was
to avoid this.
This is my first time incubating and I just want it perfect
and I can't get perfect. Lol.
