Help injured chicken....

Hi there

My latest batch of chickens was a disaster, the humidity dropped and one of them was in its egg for nearly 48 hours, i went in and rescued him/her by slowly breaking open egg as was no way it was getting out.

The chick was covered in sticky stuff and all hard not wet and i thought would sort itself out.

Today was lying on back and making lots noise and all hard and sticky, i got cotton buds and tried to get as much off as possible but still not looking good.

Its still very hard and sticky in places what is best way to help this chick out please, see picture.

hi, first up, i am not a chicken expert but a wildlife carer specialising in birds so there is room for error here but,

i would check to make sure yolk sack fully absorbed and skin closed, under warm light wash very carefully in bowl of warm water using cotton balls and slight submersion, being very carefull of temperature, pre boiled or sterile water would be best, perhaps even a couple of drops of betedine to help with any bacteria lurking. dry off as best as possible, make sure vent is clear, few drops of electrolytes would be usefull, to help with rehydration, spark or something similar you could also mix this with a product called pollyade which can often keep a sick bird going longer until it can eat.

hope this helps, if its too late the products i mentioned are very very usefull in treating any type of sick bird, if you have them on hand you will be surprised what you can bring back to wellness.

best of luck.
