I am so sorry to hear about the loss. It is so hard to lose not only a beloved pet but a member who also pulled more than his weight. He was worth his weight and gold and was far more precious to you and your family. I am so terribly sorry.

I am so sorry for your loss I know how hard this is as I have lost some of mine to predators. Only found 1 and that was the worst - I cried for days!

I'm sorry for your losing your Pekin drake. I've had the same sad experience with predators. Once, I saw a sow raccoon scaling the 7' tall side of my waterfowl pen, with my favorite khaki Campbell duck in her mouth. I grabbed the raccoon's tail and tried to pull her down, but realized that my duck was already dead and it would have been useless, and what would I have done with a snarling, angry raccoon sow. I let go and she took my poor duck home to her den to feed her family.
I've lost ducks and chickens to foxes and raccoons, but now I have a covered run for the chickens - no more free-ranging - and I bring the waterfowl in at dusk. This season I am covering the waterfowl pen with heavy galvanized fence wire so nothing can climb in. When I built it, I sank timbers and wire underground to keep varmints from burrowing in, and I should have covered it then too. Would have spared a lot of heartache.

You might want to consider a covered waterfowl pen. It is worth the effort.

We bought 2 Pekin ducklings in March. They grew pretty fast. We have been keeping them (male and female) penned at night with the chickens. Last night my husband thought it would be ok to leave them out at night. This morning, the male is gone...with a trail of duck feathers for several yards. We are devastated. How will the lone female survive without a companion?

Not good, they like to have another, I know you know this now but you can never leave waterfowl or chickens without protection at night, as you have found out something is always waiting for a chance at a free meal. at only 3 months old they are still ducklings too. I hope you can find another duckling for the one thats left, check CL seems theres always someone who doesn't want ducks anymore. Maybe you'll be able to save a life. So sorry for your loss and the trauma your other duck went through.

I was wondering if your Duck ever showed up. I am also in Maryland and there is a "wild" Peking male duck that I have been feeding for about a year or so in my yard. I wonder if it isn't your duck. I live on the water and there are a lot of ducks that come and go but this one has stayed

. There are also a bonded Peking pair that travel with three mallards that I feed. I call them the fab five. Anyway, the Pekings are pretty tame and I am certain that they were someones pets that either got out or were let go. They are huge now because I think other neighbors are also feeding them. I have no idea where they go at night but they have managed to stay alive. I am worried about them because today they got scared by our new neighbors lab that is never on a leash and ended up getting stuck in frozen water because they just took off across the ice and fell into a patch. They got out thankfully but they easily could have been hurt. Also, we have a bald eagle that has recently shown up and a fox is now coming around. These ducks seem to enjoy being free but they are at such a risk being out in the wild. The bonded pair almost never leave each others side but the single male has black spots on his duck bill. I tried to get a picture of his markings but he kept turning his head. Let me know if you think this might be your lost duck.

The same thing happened to me and I'm worried for the other two cause they were really close they would never leave each other's side and they will be confused about her being missing.

I came home yesterday and noticed that my male pekin was missing. I looked all over the area that he roams and no duck, not even a trace. My female is calling to him, but no response.

He was great at protecting my chicken flock and the other duck. He's never gone missing, is always close to the coop and house, and when I'm in the yard he would follow me around. He would even 'walk' me to my car in the morning and greet me when I came home.

The only thing I can think of is a predator, or that he may have gotten hurt and hid/died somewhere, or someone duck-napped him (although I don't think that is likely as I live in an area of nothing but farms and everyone knows everyone, besides what would another farmer want with a duck?)

Any ideas??? He was a 12 pound male pekin duck. I don't have issues with foxes unless one moved in recently as we have someone who traps, we hunt, and I have 3 dogs... but you never know.

Thanks
There was an eagle picking mine off , it might be that. I had a duck disappear for 3 weeks then show itself a couple days for a little bit , it didn't look that good , but disappeaed again ? I don't understand what's happening !
