Adding new chicks to existing chicks

Hello.  I have baby chickens that will be 1 month old when I get newly hatched one-day old baby chicks.  When can I mix the chickens together?

I think this exact question is asked every day on this forum. =P

My personal opinion is that that's a bad idea. I've been really successful adding day olds to older birds, up to 2 1/2 weeks. But 4 weeks, in my opinion is too big. Even if the older chicks aren't agressive (which they will probably peck at the little babies, even if only out of curiosity)  they might trample the day olds. You can absolutely try it, and watch them to see. But you'd have to be very careful. And they might be fine for days and one day you could walk in to a dead trampled baby. It happens when you mix bantam chicks with standard chicks, also. If it were me, I would put them in a separate brooder.

My sweet puppy, Maggie (1yo), 3 adorable baby pet rats, Darby, Lilah, and Faye, 3 cats, 2 bunnies, a goldfish named Ghoti (pronounced "Fish"), 1 Khaki Campbell duckling, 1 Magpie duckling, and lots and lots of chickens!

I intend to seperate them, but want to intergrate them eventually, so when would be a good age for the younger ones to do that?  I appreciate your help.

It depends on you birds. Their size and personality will have to determine that. I would say the younger ones should be at least 6 weeks old. But they may do well together well before that. That's kind of a "play it by ear" situation.

Thanks.  I was worried for a minute that I couldn't.  I don't mind waiting.  The first batch were given to me.  But it was just 3, so I ordered a few more....  Thanks for your help.
