Roosting on waterer/feeder!?!

Can anybody give me some suggestions to keep my chicks from roosting on the waterer and feeder? I have my 4 wk old chicks in a very large rubbermaid bin with pine shavings. I have the waterer and feeder sitting on an overturned bowl. They are beginning to roost on them and of course poop all over the place. What to do???

Get yourself some cardboard or posterboard and make a tall, conical cap to sit on top of the feeders and waterers.

Do you have a roost in the bin for them? If you don't, I would make a roost that was a little higher than the feeder and waterer and put that in there for them. By four weeks, mine were using a small stick stuck in box to roost on. I tipped a box on it's side and stuck the stick in long ways through the sides. It was sturdy, gave them a feeling of security and was a good transition to their coop.
