Thread Starter

I have been raising chickens now for 2 years. I started out with 12 hens and that grew to 16 hens, 2 roosters and 2 guineas. Several of the hens died when they were little and my beautiful rooster was dead one morning when I let them out of the coop. I got rid of the male guinea because he was a real bully. Right now I have 13 hens, 1 rooster, 1 guinea, 2 juvenile marans, and 9 baby chicks. Going to get 2 more babies this Friday.

I have a pretty much mix with my breeds. I did a lot of research before getting my birds looking for certain things, mainly egg production and cold hardiness. The breeds I have are brahmas, sussex, marans, americana, australorp, production red, welsummer, and leghorn.

I live in CO where I spend most of my time gardening and knitting along with taking care of chickens and other pets. I don't work outside of the home, but I find that I work harder now than I did when I got paid for working. There seems to always be something to do.

I found this website from a post on Facebook about DLM. I was interested in it and found all of the responses very informative and decided that this would be a good place to get more information or help when needed with my chickens. Can't wait to learn more great stuff from all of you.

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?
