Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

Hi and welcome-byc.gif from Ohio. So glad you joined. If you did get meat birds, they will be ready to butcher in 8-10 weeks. If you don't think you will be able to eat them, then I suggested you find someone to take them now. My DD and I always felt that it was a shame that meat birds are the most friendliest birds out there, but by the time they are 8 wks old I am ready for them to go. thumbsup.gif

Hello, and welcome-

I am fairly new to chickens too. I am a sucker for a baby animal, but I love watching them grow and do their 'chicken thing'!!! There is a lot of info to be had here on this forum. If you have any questions, try using the search feature....it is great!

I personally LOVE silkies, because they are soooo different looking, I have 4 so far.

i also have some Easter Eggers (Mutts), a bantam i have not figured out yet, a sebright, 1 black copper marans roo, 2 blue polish (comical, beautiful, but skittish), and 2 that are supposed to be sultans, but they must be a mix of sorts. Look in the 'breeds' section of this site, there you will find info on many breeds.

Have fun with them! They are fun to have! And Best of luck with your new chickies!!!!

ETA: I also have 4 white leghorns- they are very sweet, friendly, and good egg production. One of them comes to me as soon as I go into the coop. She is always landing on me and will ride on my shoulder.

They seem to be the most friendly out of all that i have- They are smart too......well, sort of, for a chicken....big_smile.png

Not enough chickens ;-O

Not my fault, the Farmer's market made me do it-

My other animals: DH, 4 kids, 3 beautiful Grandchildren, 1 dog, 7 cats

I think I have become both an addict and an enabler ;-P

(chickens and ducks, of course)
