Hi,

 

I live in NE Iowa, any Iowan's out there?

Fodie, wife to Adam and mommy to 4 kiddlets: Chloe, Hunter, Tanner and Easton.  I have 1 Roo RSL, 1 SLW, 3 BLRW (1 roo), and 23 new baby EE's hatched on 9/10/12.

No Iowans huh? This makes me sad. Lol! I hope I get some replies, I really need advice on which hatcheries to go to, unless I can find someone local with chicks?

Was hoping to come back to the computer with some replies. I have been planning for weeks but am still lost, research only goes so far and I would really like advice directly from the source, plus maybe develope some sort of friendship within these forum walls (so to speak). I am looking to go get my chicks from Decorah Hatchery next Saturday.

I'm not in Iowa currently, but was born in Oelwein and lived in Hazelton when I was a baby. I spent a lot of time up there with family when I was a kid, my grandpa, aunts uncles, cousins live in Oelwein still and my grandparents in Maynard..

If you aren't sure what you want I'd check out local feed stores. They generally have an assortment of chicks in the spring. If you want specific breeds they can also usually order them for you.

Must be a small world, My husband and I are from Oelwein too! We may be related....LOL.  We moved to Fayette recently.

Well, we moved from Oelwein for a reason. That town has gone downhill unfortunatly. Plus we could not pass on a acerage for rent with a landlord who said we could pretty much do whatever. :)

I haven't been up there for a few years, but I noticed that last time. Sounds like you found an ideal place though, I wish I had acreage. Happy with my one acre for now though.

Well it was really nice to meet you, I don't think I know anyone online (that I did not know personally) from Oelwein. It is great to have any type of acerage, even just one :)
