Goslings are hatching

My goose started setting on the 28th of March and this morning when I checked on her she had 1 baby. I took my cane and lifted her up and their was the cutiest little gosling looking back at me. I just got back from feeding and watering for the night and I checked her again and she has 8. I think she had about 20 eggs under her. I really didn't expect her to hatch any because she won't be a year old until July 4th. I had to put my other goose in a seperate pen because she was going in the nest to and I was afraid the little ones might get stepped on and killed accidently.

Congratulations!!  Mine hatched out on Tuesday...I have 9 total.  She was sitting on 11 or 12 eggs, but I found 2 that didn't make it out of the shell :(    This is her first ones and she's not a year old yet either.  She was so dedicated to sitting on them that I was really hoping she would get a couple for her efforts....now we have 6 girls and 3 boys wee.gifyippee!!

Thats great. What breed are your geese and how do you tell the boys from the girls. I have 11 now. I found 1 dead in the nest and threw away 6 eggs that had rotted. I'm very pleased with her hatch. I ony wanted a couple now I'm going to have to find homes for some of them.

Mine are pilgrim so it's fairly easy to tell who is who....the girls have the dark beaks (bills?) and are yellow with dark grey and the boys have a pinkish beak (bill?) and are yellow with a lighter grey colour on their back.   Bonnie with a baby girl and boy :)  The little girl is up by her head and the boy is under her wing, behind him is another girl.  I am going to keep a couple of the girls and will have to sell the rest.  They are so precious though and I love to sit and watch them love.gif
