Wow, thank you so much! I have given horses injections before and this sounds similar. Chickens just have less meat to work with. LOL I am going to study up on this by reading it again and maybe I will get with the vet and get some penicillin. It is worth a try.

In the mean time, I am wondering, can you use hemorroid cream or hydrocortisone cream on chickens? I am thinking that maybe smearing some of this stuff on her foot it might help with the swelling. I still think that if the swelling would go down, the body could heal this thing better. She seems to have a healthy immune system, at least she looks quiet healthy. If you didn't know she had a swollen foot, you could never pick her out of the group.

Thanks again Jim!

I've heard of Preparation H being used to reduce swelling for bumblefoot. I havnt tried neither product on my chickens.

Well, I cut out 2 cases of bumblefoot. I followed the instructions from here step by step.  It was so upsetting, I cried. I caused so much pain and I never found a "corn". Now 1 year later the bumblefoot seems solved. I hope i don't confuse you. I dug so deep I thought this can't be right and stopped. My 2 big birds seem happy and no black spot anymore.

Please don't pass on the injections just because you haven't done them before!  You can do it!  I did!!!  Just don't go in much more than 1/4 inch -  and alternate between the right and left sides of the breast.  I accidentally went to far one time and I hit bone (gently) - just backed it out.  You'll be fine..and hopefully save a life!

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I will call the vet tomorrow and see if she will give me the go ahead on the antibiotics. In the mean time, I did rub on some prep h on her foot tonight and maybe it will help with some of the swelling.

Thank you all, you have been great! And it gives me some peace of mind knowing that I am not the only one that has or is dealing with an on going case of bumblefoot. I had no idea it would last so long and didn't know the time line to this infection.

Thank you everyone!

Great one Jim! that's a great one to do some looking into. You never fail us.  I have never done the injections as well. Never knew when the time really was to do it as well. we are such scardy cats.

KLM, I agree, dont be scared to do it!!!! If you do, maybe I will.

keep us posted with her.

I looked at all the caged animals in the barn...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness, and betrayal. And I was angry."God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"God was silent for a moment, and then He spoke softly, "I have done something," he replied.  "I created you."
