After reading all the posts I am beginning to feel like I exhibited extraordinary control.   Or at least I have lots of good company while being out of control!   lau.gif

A handful turns into a dozen, the dozen turns into 26 pullets. Then I needed roosters of course. I go to pick out 2, come home with 9. But I managed to name the ones that the hubby says are NOT staying after food. Nugget, Patty, Strips, Noodle, Alfredo, and Genral Zhao....but one of my "pullets" might be a roo. that means i need another girl, or 6 right?

I know this is the wrong place to be posting for intervention. You rembember my 3 chickens turned to 9 and then a donation made 10.  The feed supply store called yesterday to tell me the chicks I ordered (4 weeks ago) are in.  I told her I already picked up the 3 RIR from a different shipment, but they have barred rock.  My chickens are still in boxes in a spare bedroom.  All 10 of them, eager to escape.  Hubby says I have to wait until they are in the coop to get anything else.  I think I have 4 BO roosters and I have some one to take them, but one might be to pretty to give away.  Sigh.  And now I really want an EE, must have blue/green eggs.  Did I mention my coup is 4 x 6.  At 4 square feet a bird that would be the 6 hens I have.  At 3 square feet, it would be 8 and at 2 it will be 12.  I am going to have a large run, likely 10 x 20.

Does it matter that the Buff Orpingtons and the Golden Comet are looking pretty big?  I don't want to end up with too many for the coop.  I think I'm starting to understand why people collect bantams, but I want LF.  Sigh...

Advice anyone???

And I am really lusting over Black Java's although they seem impossible to find and a fortune on top of it.  Maybe these all should be my learing to have chickens flock.

Only two suggestions here,  1. BIGGER COOP...or more coops (because I can see a serious situation next year ... LOL or....

2.  Load the extras in the car and deliver  them to  MY house.  I'm already thinking that even with two coops I am going to have to do an addition to the original coop (shhhh! don't tell the DH, he still thinks the freebie playhouse I am turning into a 2nd coop means I won't be doing the addition.  Let him have his delusions a while longer)
