I only have one speckled sussex which was straight run. It is now seven weeks old and I'm still not sure about the sex. My kids have zeroed in on "speckles" as their favorite and i hope i dont have to dissappoint them. We can't keep a Roo. Thanks for your input everyone.

I'd put the kids on alert Speckels is probably going to have to go live somewhere else.

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!

I am leaning towards roo but I'm not as good with sexing LF chicks as I am bantams.  Seems some LF chicks can get bigger combs and turn red earlier than others.  I hope someone with speckled sussex experience chimes in soon!

Look at the tail. If this chick has a long tail, it's a female. Short tail means rooster. SS's combs grow pretty big fast.

Thanks everyone. Here's one more, a bit blurry. I too am leaning toward a Roo. SHE is the first one to hop out of their box when i take the lid off. Very docile but curious. IDK. Time will tell. I will just have to get the kids to "gush" over a different bird. Sorry about pic links I'm not sure yet how to get photos from iPad photobucket into post.

OMG! Just after posting this my nine week old EE crowed! I was able to get it on video to show my husband. I can't believe this. Now I have two to rehome. 'sigh' I got my EE from a different person I got the rest from. When I showed him a pic of her last week he said she was beautiful and wanted her. Maybe he'll take HIM now. I still can't believe she crowed. I hope I can find two more to replace these guys. sad.png
