HELP--- incompletely formed egg ????

This egg was laid by my 5 month old hen.   Over the years I've had soft eggs but none like this.    Any idea what the problem is?   I have oyster shells available, I crush used egg shells and I feed free choice commercial layer feed.  The girls are free range and eat a varied diet of bugs or whatever they find.

Any advice. . . . . . .??????

Should I be worried??????

Thanks for anything you all can tell me about this.

maybe it is too much calcium? I don't know much about chickens because i just got mine a little while ago.

I have 6 chickens! one dog, she is a Coton De Tulear and the smartest doggie alive! I also have several goldfish aproaching seven years old.

I have oyster shell in one bowl and regular grit in another bowl.

Oddly, most the egg was a normal solid egg, it was just not formed in the end.   I have had soft eggs before but nothing like this one.    I was wondering if it has anything to do with being young?

At five months your pullet may need a few more weeks to work out the kinks in her egg manufacturing equipment.

My pullets gave me a few of theses:

Like yours, my pullets ate the best of feed:  Purina layer, oyster shells and so forth.  Within a short  time they started normal eggs.  However,  I have one pullet who egg laying machine never did make a shell, and now that she is a hen, she serves no purpose except to entertain me.

1 year of age makes a pullet a hen, and a cockerel a rooster.

Age does make a difference doesn't it?  My pullets started laying at 5 months, and laid tiny little pullet eggs until winter's short days forced production to slow.  However, when Spring arrived the girls started laying larger eggs.  Except for Morse Code who has never laid a proper egg.  I think her penchant for pecking at metal things and possibly ingesting some may have affected her.
