Muscovy people, I have a question for you.

I can finally get ducks!! I posted some Muscovy questions a couple months ago, and even since then, I've been trying to convince my dad to let me get some. He just told me last night that I can! wee.gif

 

My question is, how long does it take to teach them that this is their new home? I already know where I'm getting them and everything, but in 2 weeks we are going away for the weekend. Will they be settled in by then, or should I wait to get them after vacation?

My sweet puppy, Maggie (1yo), 3 adorable baby pet rats, Darby, Lilah, and Faye, 3 cats, 2 bunnies, a goldfish named Ghoti (pronounced "Fish"), 1 Khaki Campbell duckling, 1 Magpie duckling, and lots and lots of chickens!

I would wait they need a lot of care at 2 weeks old.

They are full grown.

My sweet puppy, Maggie (1yo), 3 adorable baby pet rats, Darby, Lilah, and Faye, 3 cats, 2 bunnies, a goldfish named Ghoti (pronounced "Fish"), 1 Khaki Campbell duckling, 1 Magpie duckling, and lots and lots of chickens!

I should add, they will probably be adults. (she has several different ages, and i haven't decided which I'm going to pick.) They will be in the coop for awhile until they learn that this is their new home and I'm not afraid of them flying away. I'm trying to find out how long that should be.

When you get your ducks, I'd clip one wing that will keep them grounded. theres a link on Metzers web site that shows you how to clip. as far as them learning where their new home is. Keep them penned for a few weeks. feed them in the same place all the time that way they will associate their food with where they live. You will have someone coming to feed and give them fresh water right? when i say penned i mean inside a run not inside the coop. they will need fresh air and sunshine to be healthy. All the best as you start this adventure with ducks. smile.png

How many week is a few? I'm not trying to be difficult. I don't have a run built yet. Just a coop, and some chicken tractors. I can move them to an outside tractor while I'm at home and then leave them in the coop or an outside tractor for the couple days I'll be gone. That shouldn't be a big deal, right? I'm trying to get them as soon as I can, partially because I'm impatient, and also because I don't want the lady selling them to me to get impatient. =P
