Pricey coon removal

Thread Starter

A couple of days ago I noticed coon poop between the duck run and the building, a latrine! He's been doing this for a couple of weeks by all appearances, in the weirdest place!

Where we used to live, the best solution was a trap and a .22. With where we live now though, and the legalities as they are, there isn't any discharge of a firearm or relocation option.

So I called around and found a removal service, $159 was the best deal I could find. They're coming Tuesday to set a trap.

Man, it isn't cheap to do this the legal way! But I can't in good conscience bring a slower/quieter death to it any more than I would feel ok about relocating a problem coon and possibly transferring disease on top of it... so it's a good thing we have several companies that do this locally.

Where's wildman when you need him, he'll work for eggs!

I would get a pellet gun. They are lethal, but aren't loud. No one will even know you have it. ;)

You can go to tractor supply and buy live traps..or look online for some second hand ones. Put a can of cat food in the back "no joke" and when you have it, drive a few miles out into the woods near some water and let it go.

I regret that this is usually a bad idea. This is not only illegal in many states, but is not ethical. Heck, half the time it isn't even effective! Raccoons can return from far away, even across major highways and rivers.

So, you're dropping it off in MY woods, then??

To the folks who said to relocate: DO NOT RELOCATE a raccoon, not ever. It's usually illegal to do so. You could be spreading rabies that is merely incubating at the time it's trapped. hmm.png

If you were closer  I would do it for $100. I could use some extra money for food and gas.Buy a trap for $46 at home depot and trap it.  I have caught about 18 coons since summer 2011 in my suburban arrea.Lol, at $159 a pop someone would be feeding their family well off me!

Call animal control to take it.If they don't take it into the garage and dispatch it..Clean up that roundworm infested poo.

There is normally a coon hunting group in each state. Call them. They will come and put out a trap with a honey bun in it and take it off without charging you.
