What breeds should I get?

So what breeds should I get?

I would like to have hardy hens that are semi-good layers, and attractive.
I'm not necessarily looking at bantams, because I dont know of anyone who has ever had them in my area.
So any ideas?

i bet you will get different answers. my girls are not bantams. they are standard dual purpose. i chose them for 1. can't fly well so will manage better in my run. 2. lay large brown eggs. 3. known to be friendly & tollerate being "cooped up". 4. good looking (in my opinion). i chose barred rock, buff orpington, silver laced wyandotte, and black australorp. i think they make a very pretty flock.
