There is a 17 y.o. (Amazon?) parrot that has been quite ill for a few days now:
(I wish I had more info to share)
vomiting all day yesterday, owner said there might be a kidney issue but I'm not sure why they think that... they force fed the bird this morning.
I suggested they give her an electrolyte/vitamin mix & picked her dandelion greens yesterday which was the first thing the bird ate this morn.
Any ideas or info that could help??
Sorry it's so vague, I will try to email them tonight & have more info tomorrow!
Please send happy healing thoughts to Miss Chico, thanks a bunch!

Bring the bird to a vet.....NOW!

Why wait and ask for advice online? Most of the "my bird is sick...what do I do?" posts end badly because time is wasted asking for advice on an internet forum when the bird should be receiving medical care.

OK, rant over.......

I'm so sorry your friend has an ill parrot. Having been in online parrot communities for 10+ years now, though, it's true what AquaEyes says. Far, far too often, "My bird is sick, help!" posts end sadly within 24 or 48 hours, with the owner reporting that the bird has passed on. This has even happened here in our little corner of BYC. :( If a parrot is ill, and showing signs of illness-- it is already very, very sick indeed. It is never a good idea to wait and see if it gets better or to goof around with asking for help from anyone that is not practiced in avian medicine. I always go by the rule- if my parrot is showing signs of illness or distress, I should already be in the car on the way to the vet....

Sounds like maybe a sour crop. Maybe something internal is causing the sour crop or maybe the bird ate something that is not moving thru the system. You definitely want to get him to a vet. But in the mean time you can put ACV in the water to help combat any bacteria or yeast that may be growing. Use about 1 tablespoon per quart.

A bird vomiting can be any number of things. My first amazon died when only five years old from some unidentified infection that spread through his body. He also couldn't keep food down his last few days. The bird in question could also have ingested metal and is suffering from toxicity. Or perhaps there's an intestinal blockage.

In all honesty, if this bird hasn't already seen a vet, I doubt it's still alive.

yes a vomiting parrot needs to see a vet asap, teflon poison ,infection, sour crop, at this point no guessing SEE A VET ASAP

Any updates? I would like to read a "My parrot's Sick" story that ends well.

Sorry to have left the story hanging like that! GOOD NEWS:
Chico the parrot has been back to the vet & the kidney functions are more normal than that 1st week.
She is still not her normal self, but the vomiting stopped & her family is doing everything they can to ensure she has a full recovery. They are not sure of the cause.
*I will see my friend (Chico's owner) again Sunday so hopefully there will be more good news... The above info was what I had heard last weekend & I have been offline since...
Sorry again!

I know that 1st post was a horribly short & uninformative beginning... was just looking for any info while my friend sought out a vet. I did copy & email the first reply to her but I knew she was on her way to get care. Because it's not my bird or a really close friend, after that, I forgot that I had even posted here until I saw the friend last Saturday & remembered to ask about the bird. She is doing well!
