What NOT to feed a chicken

Quote:
In warm weather mine love melons, just crack them open and let them have a it. I have seen 1/2 a watermelon pecked clean by the time I got done feeding and watering.

Over the past weeks since getting the ladies its amazing how clean the fridge is. Whenever the mrs. is out I gather some goodies and head out to the coop. Now every time they see me comming they all line up at the door. They love the cottage cheese ( I wont use our dinner plates any more) rice cakes, crackers, oatmeal, strawberries and cantaloupe.

My chickens LOVE chicken.. I figure it is great protein... and it is the chicken bones that we have eaten off.. they would go in the garbage.. instead we put it in a bucket next to the sink along with all our uneaten waste and every day sometimes several times a day we take the bucket out to the chickens they go for the chicken bones and pick them clean.. I thought it was kinda wierd for a moment and then I thought well better than throwing in the garbage.

they love watermelon too..

The fruit decreasing egg production thing is true, I've tested it. The food that will kill them that not many people know about is cotton seeds and orange peel/cow feed. We got some food at a mill and the feed had pellet dust(also a killer food) and had been mixed with cow feed. We didn't relize this till it killed half the flock.

I have started using avocado oil to cook with. So, I am wondering since avocado is a no no, what about the oil? I scramble eggs and saute everything in it instead of olive oil. I hate to throw the scraps away...any opinions?
