Hello from Mid-MO!

Thread Starter

My name is Cass, and I live on a small farm out in the woods.  I love raising chickens, and I am learning how to raise ducks and geese.  I have a beagle, Ginger, and a kitten, Ruger.  There is not a single day that goes by with out some excitement around here, and I love it.  I also have a large garden and plan on learning how to can more this year.  I have never done general veggies, like patatoes and greenbeans, etc, but I can do tamotoes, pickles, salsa, relish, and jellies with my eyes close.

I have looked on here for advice many times and just now decided to go ahead and join the fun!  I could (well I do) talk about chickens all day long.  They are so much fun!  We have a coop full of many different breeds from cochins and Rhode Island Reds, to Americunas and Silkies.  We also have two geese and two ducks.  We haven't been very sucessful this far with hatching our own ducklings and goslings, but we have bough 2 ducklings and 1 gosling so far that are still out in the brooder.  This morning I woke up to find another goose egg pipped, hopefully we have more luck with this one.  We have hatched out about 40 or so eggs, and bought about 30 chicks of breeds we didn't have.  Our coop runneth over!  One summer project is putting metal siding up on an old green house structure and turning it into one huge chicken house!

I look forward to meeting everyone and sharing chicken stories and advice!

Cass

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?
