You are very correct.  They are the result of a one-time cross between two purebred parents.  This cross produces chicks that can have their gender determined by color (females are born with caramel racing stripes on the back, males are born whiteish yellow).

Because they are a one time cross, if you breed a female and male sexlink, you will not get chicks that also have their color linked to gender.  You'll just get a hodgepodge of yellows, reds, and whites in the next generations.
