Some of the broken egg material got onto the unbroken egg.  Do I need to clean it?  The egg is on day 8.

hopefully it is fine.  But now you got me thinking..... I didnt see the veining last night.  Also, I went out this morning to check on the gang, (feed them and all) and she was not sitting on the egg.  She was sitting beside it in the nest.  The egg felt cool, so I picked her up and put her back on the egg.

Well I hate to say it, but the way it looks it would be an egg that I tossed out at (I think you said day 8) day 8. If momma does not want to sit on it any more I would say it means that she knows it is not viable. A lot of time the Broody hen knows and will kick eggs out of the cluch if they are not progressing. Sorry!hugs.gif

Yeah, if you don't see any viens at this point I would say it is no good. Day 3 is when I begin to see veins in my eggs by day 5 or 6 I can usualy tell which eggs need to be taken out. Hope this helps.

This stinks..... she only had 2 eggs under her anyway.....hit.gif

I really enjoyed having eggs from her everyday, then she went broody.  I have chicks already, so I didnt really want to put eggs under her, but I couldnt break the broody.  I wont have eggs from the chicks til September.....hmm.png

I really am sorry to hear. But if you have a feed store close that has chicks you could just buy her one or two and then she will be happy, done setting and raise them cuties. Then she should begin laying again in about 5 ish weeks or so, when she is done raising them.
