I need a little help, please. Two weeks ago we've noticed that one of your oldest hens was developing trouble breathing and sneezing a lot. After a tour to the local animal store, we bought what was told to us to be an antibiotic, it was supposed to be administrated in the drinking water for five days. Which we did. The sick hen got a little better, but we believe that she didn't drink the right amount of water necessary, so after a week she still kind of sneezing and now she has a runny nose. We have decided to administer it directly in the beak. Se now looks a little better.
But yesterday we noticed that one of our smallest hens wasn't coming down from the roost, so another closer inspection, and noticed a swollen eye and some sort of inner "stuff". Conjutivite?
We started to clean the eye daily with salt water and trying to open the eye carefully and add as many salty water as possible. At least that's what the doctors prescribe to the kids in the house, so it must work on hens also. :)
Not sure if we are doing the right thing. In Portugal there are no veterinarians that work on chickens, so we could taken them.. We are afraid of loosing those two hens…
Any advices?
