Messy chicken bottom

I have a little chicken her name is Junior and recently her bottom collected a big clump of her poop. What should I do? I just saw it this morning and it wasn't there yesterday. Any advice?

You should wipe her bum :) I believe this is called 'Pasty Butt'. Most chicks get it and grow out of it smile.png

Well I soaked her bum while kinda peeling it off.  And thankfully it came off. But now sometimes she just barely opens her mouth and stuff comes out. Almost like drool. But she isn't a chick she lays eggs pretty regularly.

Ohh. I misunderstood, sorry. I'm not sure about the poop on the bum then, but the drooling sounds like a bacterial infection. What color is the drool?

Okay. Give all the birds a good antibiotic and Tetracycline(1 1/2 tsp. per gallon of water). Isolate Junior ASAP. Continue the antibiotics/Tetracycline for 10-14 days. Do not eat or sell the eggs for 10 days after the antibiotic, but you can boil and mash them and give them back to the chickens.

How should I isolate her? We don't have an extra coop. And what kind of antibiotic and what is Tetracycline? Do you know what's wrong with her? Is it serious or just kinda minor??

Isolate her until she's better. A big cage should work. Tetracycline is an antibiotic. It sounds like a bacterial infection, and it could be serious or minor. Sometimes there are other things and a bacterial infection.

um is Tetracycline a chicken or human antibiotic. Cause I was told that sometimes chickens don't survive antibiotics. And she seems like herself just with a messy bottom. And she only really kinda "drooled" three times. And those were when I was trying to get the poop off of her bum two days ago and she hasn't "drooled" since.

Okay, then I believe she's fine. Watch for any other symtoms (like still drooling). And Tetracycline is an animal and human antibiotic. Many people use it, and I believe the disease would kill the chicken before the antibiotic. It does not even really kill the bacteria, it just prevents it from growing.
