New hens

Thread Starter

I just bought a couple of laying hens that are about 7 months old.  In the first few days we got 3 eggs from the 2 of them and since then we havn't got any.  Could this just be a sign of them being stressed from the move or something else?

Thanks

WelcometoBYC.gif. They are most likely adjusting to the move still. They should be returning to laying soon.

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

I got my first chickens in February, 2 RIR and 2 EEers, it took almost 3 weeks to get most of them laying. And just yesterday I finally got my first egg from one of my RIR. She ended up going through a ridiculous molt right after I got her. So yeah, it may take a few weeks to get some eggs going. Just watch them for stress, and give them treats to assure them you are the good guy. Mine love grass, scrambled eggs, string cheese, strawberries... Just about anything we would eat.

Good luck!^_^ welcome to the wonderful world of chickens!
