These are funny. Not to may people have said anything about it to me except that when they start laying they would like to buy eggs from me.

Aha!  I was wondering when someone would mention the same comment I use!   People often still look confused when I explain that my hens can lay eggs without a rooster.  They look even more confused when I tell them "I lay an egg every month".  "What?" they exclaim.  "Yes, it's called my period."

I had a guy come over to look at a few roosters i was wanting to sell or give away.   I took him over to the sell pen and grabbed the first rooster.  He then said "that is a female" i said no it is a male.  So, i put it back and grabbed then next rooster.  Again he said "that is a female". I again said " it is a male" . Then he said. They are all females. I then asked why he thought that and he said " The have no b@11$ hanging.  I could not help but to bust out laughing. I then explained a bit a chicken anatomy to him.

That was a few months ago, so the story is not word for word.

I gave him the web address to this site and hope he is a member now.

"Oh, they come out warm? Why? Doesn't that cook them? You better get one cooled down quick"

A friend in my own coop. I do remember being fascinated with their warmth when the girls started laying.

My Aunt is 70 lived on a farm for 50 years 30 when she was young and the last 20 in later years raised chickens the first 20 and last 20 years for 40 years total and still insists roosters are needed for eggs. Old fools never learn. and the ant thing on ponies they eat some sort of natural wax covering on the blooms for them to open so the instructor in one of the earlier posts was half off.

Not about chickens but the same train of thought. My father grew up on a large dairy operation and they always butchered a steer every year for their meat supply along with a hog or two, one time they had made arrangements to have a family over for dinner after church one Sunday on of the kids said I would love to live on a farm I could eat steak all the time! the kid didn't realize a cow is not 100% steak meat.....

Ha! On the same vein, my father in law told me the other day that if I don't have a rooster all my chickens will be lesbians. I told him that if that's how they choose to live, more power to them! lau.gif
