If i work for somebody else, i end up working with sick, gross birds and i cant own, go near or eat the eggs of my own chickens. Why would i ever work for them?  I think not.

Good for you! thumbsup.gif

My family has just given up. As long as they get eggs they don't really care what I do with my chickens, or how many I have. My mom thought we had 3 Salmon Faverolles for ever! Umm, we only ordered 2 in the first place, and remember when we sold that one? Yeah... I swear I could order 200 roos and they wouldn't have a clue until they started ceowing, and even then it might take a LONG time.

I give eggs from my EE"S to a friend's mother  and her 2 ground up dauthers (one is my friend) and they love them. Yesterday I asked one of the dauthers about the eggs and she told me she can"t eat them beacuse she thinks about the easter chickens that are inside.....WHAT!!!!!... They are just eggs with colored shells her sister and I tell her. But she insists she can't.

Then I tell her about the bad conditions that generate the store eggs she loves and she told me that thanks to me she can't eat those also.....OMG. Her sister that is my friend told me "best for me I have more". LOL

I don't know that it was necessarily dumb, but it was mean...

I lost my first bird this morning and posted it on my fb page.  (A lot of my friends have followed me since I started this crazy little journey of chicken keeping and wanted to let them know.)  Of course some of my friends were just as sad as I have been.  Though my husband's uncle had the audacity to post, "What are you crying for?  It's just a chicken.  It wasn't even grown.  What's the big deal?"  So in an attempt to explain, I said "But it's like a pet.  I've gotten so attached to it."  And he said, "That'd be like getting attached to a feeder rat!"

*sigh*  Needless to say, I defriended my husband's uncle.  Wonder how that's going to go over with his family.......

I'm sorry Back2MyRoots!  hugs.gif

when we moved I didn't loose a chicken for 6 months, a record, since at our old house we noticed about 2 were missing every month, but most of them were feral ones that never came inside at night anyways.  Anyways, the first one I lost was a Mottled Cochin named Buddah.  We saw a hawk pick her up, break her neck, and drop her.  (Guess who got sling-shot right in the back?)  After I buried her we went to my grandma's.  She asked why I was so upset, and I told her that one of my favorite chickens had died.  She just said, "Well, stop crying about it!!! You know back when mom and dad had the egg business I was raising 200 chicks a month!  I never cried when they died, so you stop it!)

I just yelled at her:

YOU did not raise those chicks!!!

YOU were not 11!

YOU did not have to bury them!!

YOU were 20 and more interested in the fact that you were pregnant!

AND they were all yellow and identical, and I'm sure you never handled a single one of them!!!

YOU will never understand how much I was able to LOVE these animals!

She stopped then.

Thanks

My dad compares her to the popular girl at school, sometimes she's nice and your friend, other days she's an evil little brat.

does anyone else get you don't need a rooster to have eggs from your hens? One lady told me that and I go yeah but I do need him if I want chicks lol.

I don't get that that often since I do hav roosters, but just shrug it off, they can live with their crazy ideas while you can live a prospourus, healthy, natural life.
