Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Page 42

I was grocery shopping this morning in the meat section and a little girl, about 8 years old, asked her mother "Mommy, when our doggies die, do we have to eat them?"

Mom answered, "Not in the United States, honey."

Little girl, "Goody, I'm so glad!"

And off they went. It was good to see they both knew where there meat comes from.

On the crazy chicken stuff, DH will not touch a live chicken. Eggs are fine and he will eat the meat, just won't touch them live.

My aunt is terrified of chickens because she was attacked when she was little, like 14 is her idea of too small to defend herself against a chicken!  I loved it when my BO (who greets people or lets you know she wants to be held by pecking you in the back of the knee) walked up and pecked her.  Right in the back of the knee.  I had warned her but she screamed and ran away!yesss.gifI was kind of hoping that would happen, just for the laughs.

My cousins "Ewwwww, I didn't know that's what a chicken looks like! Do you have any plain white ones?"

I make sure my children know how to cook. When the get to 12, they start cooking one dinner a week. It's a lot of work at first but so far the two oldest are great cooks.

Potatoes are so funny!

I get the same look when I tell people I make my own biscuits and don't have any cake mixes in the house.

Why would you make biscuits or pancakes from a mix? There are so few ingredients it can't really be faster. The taste is so much better.

I was a cake decorator, all my cakes were from scratch, expensive and wonderful.  I used the best ingredients and it took me much longer because I developed methods that made the cakes better.  When people asked me for the recipe I would direct them to a book that had a basic recipe in it and tell them how long it takes to make it right and how expensive it was.  (I hate working hard to create great food and them some ******** come along and causally try to take my secrets) I work hard to find the best ways.  I will tell them where I started but never any of the adjustments I made.  Did people in the days when there were no box mixes casually ask people for there recipes and if they didn't want to share get all annoyed about it and think you are stuck up for not telling them?

I used to make the best Cinnamon Rolls for fair.  The secret was sweet potato base.  The judge always bought them straight from me!

My parents own a restaurant open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  They are gone 4 or more days of the week so I usually cook for my littler brother.  It is a big responsibility being only 12, and I miss my mom's great cooking every night.  But it is nice that I get good food whenever we come to work with them!

I am not sure I count I have a black thumb when it comes to gardening,  four years and nothing to show.  Could be my hatred of the heat, and the sun with my pale skin, I burn to a crisp in a matter of minuets. Hard work in the kitchen, OKAY!!  hard work outside in the sun......hide.gif

I just recently talked with my mother in law and sister in law.  I was telling them how excited I was that I would soon be getting some chickens (YAY!).  They looked at me like I was crazy, especially my sister in law.  She won't eat fresh eggs.  They are nasty.  And blue and green shelled ones have something wrong with them.  My mother in law will eat the eggs but not the chicken.  Her reasoning is that they are pets, not food.  I told them that if they want to get attached to the chickens then stay away from my solid black ones (jersey giants) because they will be cooked.  Get to know the silkie or the easter eggers.  They are meant pretty much just for eggs.  MIL said that it was good I was getting a rooster otherwise I would have chickens but no eggs.  I laughed at her and asked her what her period was.  It's all the nutrients that your body saves up for IF you get pregnant.  That's the same thing eggs without a rooster are.  IMO.  She blinked a couple of times and I think she got it.  Of course now my sister in law thinks that's what the blood spot is... Lol.  I tried but I failed.

This is the link to my swap page.  Nothing on it yet, but will see what I can gather up.  Just thought I would share some photo albums of my chicks as they are growing up.  Spotted Butt is currently my only egg layer but she lays faithfully. Elizabeth is a really pretty white easter egger.  And Fatty, is well just a fatty.  I've been told Black Australorp, or Black Giant.  Either way he is big...

I, too, am very fair and sizzle like bacon in the sun. I've had over a dozen cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions removed from my skin. Unfortunately, I grew up in the tropics and on the beach before we knew about sun damage. So, I only go out early in the morning, or late in the afternoon/early evening. The tricks to successful gardening are good amended (with rich compost) soil, no crowding of plants, lots of sun when required, and don't let the plants dry out. Start off slow, keeping those factors in mind, and you should be able to grow something like tomatoes, cukes, beans, and summer squash in no time.

It may be a loosing battle. Some people are happier in the dark ... just like mushrooms.

Love fresh tomatoes! So do the chickens, though...  Good thing we have gardening friends!
