Setting eggs today 5-3-12...anyone with me?

This will be my first attempt at incubation.  I have 18 eggs in a Brinsea Octogon 20 Advance with the humidity pump.  The eggs are all barnyard mixes from my neighbor and she will get whatever hatches.  :)

Today is a gift that is why it is called the Present.

I'm kind of with you. We have a broody hen and we set 10 eggs under her yesterday. She pushed 1 out, leaving us with 9. I'm hoping we have chicks in a few weeks because last year we built our own incubator and had 0 hatch :(

Good luck on your hatch! Our eggs were bought from a local, family owned feed store. They are just a mix like yours, so who knows what we'll get. I'd like to compare "notes" with you as the days go on!

Yippee!!!!    A hatching buddy!!!  wee.gif

I just had two broodies hatch.  One hatched three last Wednesday and another had hers late last night/early this morning, she has 5.  They are from the same neighbor, all mutts.  I think it will be fun to compare those chicks as they grow with her flock to see who the parents could be!

Did you candle your eggs before you gave them to your hen?  I candled the 23 eggs she gave me last night and only 18 were suitable.  I am super excited for the end of the month!

We are setting eggs today, seven Splash Marans! (We had ordered 12, but jeeze those postal carriers are rough!)

Our first Time!  Tweaked our friends incubator last night and most of today and finally got the humidity/temp ratio constant and to a level I can live with. We just set them a few hours ago.

Yay us!  Good luck guys!

Here are our lucky 7 that survived the USPS ! They're not as dark as one might want for Marans eggs, but their momma's at the end of her laying cycle and they tend to lighten up at times like that.

Here they are in the slow cooker:

I put a dozen GL Polish in the incubator Sunday evening. I am a few days ahead, but would like to hatch along.  I have a broody hen that I am going to put eggs under on Saturday if thing go alright.

The more the merrier!   It would be interesting to see what our combined hatch ratio turns out to be.  I set 18.

Woo Hoo! jumpy.gif

This is my third attempt at incubating. I have 23 Black Copper Marans eggies I set in my newly purchased GQF 1583 forced air, picture window styrofoam incubator at 11:50 p.m. on May 2. So, today was my first full day of incubating eggs. The temperatures have been rock steady. [fingers crossed]

Here's my beauties — resting just after receiving them from the post office.

It seems like the last two times I've attempted to incubate eggs there has been at least a couple of storms in my area that knocked the power out for a while. And wouldn't you know it — just 10 hours after I put these in — a storm blew in. Sheesh. Midwest weather is so unpredictable — especially during the month of May in Kansas.

I plan of setting up a webcam inside the incubator so I can view them at work in case they decide to hatch without my presence. Ha! Hopefully my hatchmates can view along with me. wink.png

Good luck EVERYONE! Happy hatching! jumpy.gifD.gif
