Incubating geese trouble!! please help

hi there.

i have 3 geese eggs in an octagon 10 incubator. it was day 27 yesterday, i went to fill the water resevoirs and spray the eggs for the last time, when i heard peeping inside the smallest egg, so i filled up and close the inciubator again. i had candled the eggs the day before and all 3 were looking good. i went to check this morning and could not hear any peeping in the egg, and also the temperature had risen from 38 to 39 !

do you think this rise in temp could have comprimised the hatch?

they are not due to hatch for another few days, so could the gosling just be sleeping or something???

thank you so much

fred

hi,

thanks for the comment. so you don't think the slight increase in temp would have caused the gosling to die??

I would absolutely not worry about a one degree temp change! Your babies will be fine.  It is normal for babies to rest a lot in the last few days in between stages of hatching. Just keep that humidity high and post pics when they hatch! big_smile.png

I hope someone who uses an octagon will answer.  I use a styro still air for hatching and only know how much is needed for that type of bator to achieve desired humidity (75-80%) for hatching goslings.

He's talking 1 degree in Celsius, though, which is almost 2 degrees in Fahrenheit (102.2 deg F).  Would that make a difference?  I don't know - just wondering.

I think even a 2 degree temp wouldn't cause baby to die in shell. It sounds like temp went up at best for only 12 hours.  At this late stage of incubation, temp fluctuations not as damaging as early stages. I had a power outage one time right after my gosling externally pipped. The temp dropped to 90 degrees for a few hours, but the baby hatched out just fine. smile.png

What breed of goose?

Since the bator isn't filled to the brim, add a bowl of hot water with a sponge in it. That will help increase the humidity.
