How many eggs does your broody have? That's exciting! I had a broody hen a couple of years ago who sat on some eggs - it was so fun and they were such a cute little family!

Hello . I'm hoping to get some magpie and pied call duck eggs and my duck is currently sitting on 9 although i think one of them is bad as she kept pushing it out the first few days. Really excited!

1 apricot call drake

1 chocolate bibbed

1 magpie duck

1 chocolate call duck

1 bibbed call drakes

1 call duck (colour unknown)

Just candled the three I wasn't sure about - saw movement in them, so yay! They've made it so far...I really hope they all hatch! smile.png

Quackers08 - ooh, magpie calls. I think someone else in the Hatch-Along has magpie call eggs - diamond88. They're very pretty!

TheDuckWoman - Wonderful! Oh, Embden are beautiful! When are your broody's eggs due?

woot.gif on your upcoming lockdown. Is lockdown on the 25th day? Would I lockdown (stop turning) at the 25-day mark around the time of day that I set them? If it's day 25, then I've only got three more days. celebrate.gif

I was really curious on the chicks and how they would look as well.   So far I have two of them.  The only place that they look different to me than any other chick is on the back of their neck.  It looks kind've matted looking.  I must say they arent the cute little fluffy chick that you typically think of.  I will try to take a picture of them tomorrow and send it over.

As far as lockdown,  that is how I have been running my lockdowns but I am unsure of there is a specific theory one should do or not.

I had my first egg ever explode in one of my incubators.....GROSS!!   What an awful smell!

I candled all my eggs tonite. Of the 1st 2 batches waiting to go into lockdown I have 1/7 from my own hens that has developed & still viable. It goes in lockdown Sunday evening. I have 6/8 Silkies, 2/3 Ameracunas & 0/1 Partridge Rocks to go in lockdown Tuesday. The Blue Cochin & Partridge Cochin didn't develop. So far, that gives me 9/21 eggs still viable. 43% isn't bad, especially when the 7 of mine were a test to see if my young roo was doin his job yet.

sickbyc.gif I'm sorry you had a stink bomb. I barely escaped that fate last week. There was a really ripe one in my bator! th.gif

I've been locking down on day 24 lately. Occasionally day 23 if I see an internal pip at last candling. A lot of people go by how far their air cells have dropped. You are safe to stop turning at day 23 from what I understand and it has worked well with me. Just trying to go with what the ducklings want to do.

Yep, I have three magpie call duck eggs in lockdown right now. One has already started zipping! I'm so excited that he's hatching on his own, and quite quickly. The other two haven't even made internal pips yet, but the hatch day technically shouldn't be for two more days anyway. I've just got one eager little guy! Quackers, best of luck with your ducks!

I have just one female black and white magpie call duck named Bunny.  She's an indoor duck and my little baby.  I'm considering the possibility of getting a second duck, if the right female, white, newly hatched call duckling comes along.
