I'm in the Nashville area & have heard horrible things about Poulty Hollow from folks who have gone out there. I bought my chicks from Doug & Tracie @ The Poultry House in Franklin. It's bio secure certified so you can't go there but they will deliver or you can pick up in Triune. Several people I know have had great experiences with them, us included. Their chicks seem to be healthy. Doug does presentations on raising & seems to be extremely knowledgable & cares. That goes a long way with me! I know its hard but let your money do the talking next time. If so many people have had bad experiences with Poultry Hollow, you'd think the owners would take notice instead of being irate & defensive. With the current urban chicken craze, people are really starting to network & talk.

You EE #1 looks a lot like mine! They may be sisters because I got her from Poultry Hollow in February. Here is a picture of my Charlotte cooling her belly in my garden...she is one of my favorites - her personality & her coloring (it's laced)! I can't wait to see what her egg color is big_smile.png

I want to also say that overall I enjoyed my experiences at Poultry Hollow. I have been twice this year and spoke to them on the phone several times. I found them very helpful. I chose their farm because I could go there and pick from many different breeds & get sexed chicks. I enjoyed walking around and seeing the different types and I even tossed my list once I got there and they helped me pick out "more interesting" chickens...and I am so glad I did that! I was brand new to chickens and I had no idea there were so many different breeds. I could only get 6 and I wanted 6 different breeds. Yes, there was an odor...most farms do have one. This is mainly from the manure compost pile over to the side (near the creek). I do wish it smelled better...I have a killer sense of smell and actually dabbed peppermint oil under my nose on the 2nd trip. I bought 5 chicks from them and all are beautiful and doing well 3 months later...my Speckled Sussex has turned out to be a cockerel, but it happens everywhere. SS are hard to sex. I took my young boys on my first visit and they had a blast seeing the animals! And Miss Judy was very good with them. Before I drove 1 hour to their farm I called and made sure it was a good time. I also called 30 minutes out to let them know we were close...there was never any problems. There were other options for me (I know of even more options now that I am more familiar with chickens and BYC has helped), but I found they worked best for me and my family's schedule & needs at the time.

They are not for everyone and their specific needs, but I do not regret buying from them. I wanted to buy locally to avoid shipping (I've seen the videos on youtube of hatchery chicks on conveyor belts and I didn't want that). No place is perfect...especially with that many chicks. Just wanted to give my good experience to balance the scales, so to speak.

You write that our breeds are not pure bred, guess what, WRONG AGAIN! You have 59 chicks? Well good for you, you are not hatching thousands a week and have NO IDEA what you are talking about! When you go to a pet store there are tanks of fish for sale, yes a little crowded but what do you expect a tank per fish? Well guess what, same thing with raising poultry, you have to have them in pens where YES they are full but NOT too many that they are over crowded. You people just DO NOT know what you are talking about!!! We have over 5000 birds at this time, does it smell? YES, smells like a chicken farm. Are our pens and brooders clean? YES they are twice a week. How long have you been raising poultry? A few weeks? Oh then by all means you are an experty and know it all! Wish I could apologize but sorry, if anyone is owed an apology it is us for these BRUTAL LIES that are being told about us. We would NEVER try to sell a bird for older than it is! Our pricing start with UP TO WEEK OLD, then goes to 2 weeks when it is PAST WEEK OLD! I have never been so mad at somebody's irresponsible attempt to talk about things they don't know or understand! So be sure to write the pet stores and let them know they are treating their animals with cruelty since there are many fish in tanks, several cats in their enclosure, Oh god there are several hampsters in their pens, I could go on but really you are not worth it! Do you think when someone buys them they go to a less crowded area?

I'm hoping that some people can start talking with more education instead of trying to talk about thing you know nothing about. We don't appreciate the down right slander!!!

Well if anything you just backed up the OP's story. I'll never buy anything from you just based on that little hot headed rant. A professional would have kept their opinion to them self here and tried to make it right for the OP. I'm no "experty" but I've seen enough chicks now to think those ones look a bit sickly.

Liz, wife, mom to 4 boys and  "food lady" to a mix of mostly Ameraucanas & EE's with a few oddball breeds for fun. :)

x2, you read my mind!!!!  Scarily unprofessional.  Oh well, capitalism works in the long run.
