Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....

How old is she? My girls at 16+ weeks have only a little red showing up in the face. Just a blushing in the line along the back of the beak and a bit in the comb, at the very ... how to describe, sort of at the back?, whereas Charley's entire comb is red until it hits the beak, though his face is a little lighter blush. Plus he has some wattles, which are very small, but the girls don't. So it kind of depends on how old she is?? Do you know what she was mixed with to get that coloring?
Oh and (sorry, can't help myself, mama bear coming to the surface) Please don't have them so close to your eyes! The peck at shiny things all the time. I kinda do that too, but I have glasses
LOL, so I'm not exactly practicing what I preach

I have a small flock of Standard Partridge Cochin rooster, Light Sussex roo, Austra White, Gold Laced Wyandotte, speckeled sussex, mystery breed and Welsummer. A patient husband, 11 year old daughter who is thrilled with my new hobby, a dog, 3 cats and 4 bee hives.
I am looking for Buff or Laced Brahma, Light Sussex, Buff Sussex pullets/hens.

I just bought three new sultan chicks, and they are all different color chick downs. Is the Sultan based on Blue? One of my chicks is blue. I got them from Ideal.
NPIP certified. Breeding for SQ d'uccles, project is chocolate mille fleur and citron mille fleurs d'uccles. Eggs not available until Summer 2013, due to color project. May have project birds, just pay shipping.

On page 2 of this thread I posted a pic of one of my 2 my "Blue Sultans. I have concluded someone crossed a Sultan with a Polish. I recently saw a Polish chicken and that s mostly what mine looks like except for the feathered legs and fifth toe. I am no longer worthy of subscribing to this thread lol...I will be getting a Real Sultan and a Polish. I like my mixes so much I want one of each breed.
LOL, it may be? To keep the horned comb, it's easiest to cross with a polish, however, there really is no such thing as "pure blooded" Chickens conform to type not genetics :) But upon look at that picture (page 4) of your girl (who is gorgeous!) I'd guess she might have silkie in her. Her skin seems very dark (silkies have black skin) and they also have 5 toes. The comb could have stayed forked or it might be walnut in that case. Not the hardest thing to correct. You might want to try capturing her color since it's already started, or just enjoy your beauties!
The down will show recessive genes, I forgot what they're called, but usually in sultans it's a little gray colors with the yellow on the backs. My Sultans are from Ideal, they are the bantam size, and if I may critique them harshly, many of them have black feathers popping out here and there or else what I call blue feathers (more like faded spots on otherwise white feathers) Some had only 4 toes on one foot, some had 5th toes that were very connected to the 4th, some were missing their nails and only a few have good feathering on that mid toe, or the one that points forward, others have short little feathers coming out of there, and I believe mid toe feathering is desirable. I have my favorite look for the face, large rounded nostrils and curved beaks, but some of my girls have squished looking nostrils and longer straighter beaks.
Anyway, they are hatchery stock, which usually means that they are simply being hatched out for numbers and not really selected for qualities. But I do hope to see if I can't hatch some prettier birds by selecting a couple of girls to hatch from. I've been taking notes on the girls to narrow down who I would like to hatch from, then I have to figure out how to get only her eggs, LOL
LOL, Charlie just pitter pattered over here, it's so cute how his feet sound like a little child's. Plop plop plop, he's so cute! I know the boys would rather be outside with their ladies, but we keep them indoors on the weekends (with diapers) so they don't bother the neighbors on their day off.

I am sure. The only recognized color is white.

Thanks for the post. I do really like my girls. I have a friend who has a Sultan roo, but I do not want to breed them since I don't know what I am doing. I love that you keep your boy in the house on weekends!

LOL, they're not so happy about it nor is my mom, she thinks I'm crazy. Actually, she should know by now, I AM crazy and she should give up trying to normalize me!!!! LOL
I would like to get my Seramas out of the house though. They don't take much room, but I want them out anyway. The two bigger boys are like normal pets with diapers, I can let them run around or sit wherever, But the Seramas, there are too many, LOL, and diapering each is a pain, I'd rather they live outside :) But since I have 3 cockerels, I need to sound insulate and I haven't figured out exactly how I am going to do that quite yet, or where......... Ugh!
