writing to prisoners

Is there a reason why you want to write to a prisoner?

DON'T I did this when I was in my 20's I thought I was being good I didn't think of us ever meeting but one day he showed up at my door, lucky my folks were not home and he continued to show up I tried to give I am too busy but he wouldn't let up a neighbor across the street saw and heard me trying to tell the guy I am not interested she got a hold of the guy and told him to bugger off and I was not interested.

BAD IDEA if he is a robber he could rob your place or a rapist he could.... he was in jail for a reason and true some reform but I feel it is rare I was lucky nothing happen from this guy but IT COULD OF and you can't be to careful these days

   You best to write to a military person it would be a GOOD THING TO DO

you have to become a memebr I think but there are plenty here you can write to.

Not a good idea. They share letters with people you may not know and are very good at manipulating "outsiders".  They can find out who you are also from the postmark.... city, state etc.

They usually hint at you sending them money or other things.

Writing to a prisoner?  that sounds exciting.  I would get a PO box.

do yourself a favor, write to our soldiers, they need it the most while fighting for our country! Give them our attention rather than the prisoners unless they are a relation to you.

Had a uncle that served in prison for a lifetime sentence. He was very strange and manlipulative. Our family never wrote to him except my aunt and my grandparents (because they loved him but failed him miserably as parents). 

Prison ministries are important, but women should only participate in them by working with female inmates, and men with men.  You should also only participate in prison ministries in the context of a group of people with a sense of mission, a specific format for interaction, and experience working with this population, to avoid some of the potential safety risks.

Going solo isn't a good idea.  Writing to a particular prisoner would only be acceptable if they are someone who is already a member of your family or good friends, whose situation you know.

I don't know if you need a lawyer for this to find your rights to find out what exactly happened in his words. If he is remorseful in what he did the crime, he will respond back but he is no obligation to share any information about the crime (events lead up the murder or assault, why he picked her out, etc. her last words, etc.) If he doesn't, sometimes you might have to let it go but if you can't, sometimes you can go to the court house for documentations/notes of what has happened or some kind of summons briefly what the crime he did. News people get that all the time, it's public information. Some cases can not be seen publicity.
