Web Cams?

I have seen on here people putting web cams inside their chicken coops -- that sounds like a fun idea!  My husband will surely think I am nuts if I suggest it, but my kids will get a real kick out of it.  If you have one in your coop, which one/what kind is it?

We have the D-Link 932L. (Actually, we have three of them, two in the coop and one in the run). They work quite well.

Two araucanas, two black sex links, a buff orpington, a speckled sussex, a blue cochin and silver cuckoo marans. And two rescue dogs, a rescue cat, two ponds full of goldfish and koi, and a few turtles.

this is the camera i have

http://www.amazon.com/wirless-version-digital-remoter-software/dp/B0043PGY8U/ref=sr_1_15?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1336218703&sr=1-15

I'm very happy with the movement and quality.

Set up can be a pain in the butt, but i do not think there are any 'plug n play' surveillance cameras.

I have two Foscams, one in the coop and one in the run. I have intermittent connection flaky problems, but I think that's because of the wifi repeater (the coop is pretty far from my router, so I have a signal repeater in between). The cams are a lot of fun, when I travel I can log in and check on the girls. I use the Blue Iris software, I'm quite happy with it.

There is a good forum for the Foscam cams, http://foscam.us/forum/

Be careful about buying them on e-bay, there are lots of counterfeit cams out there.

The forum for Blue Iris software is at http://www.cam-it.org

I use a cheap baby monitor.  Mostly I just want to be woken up if there is a scuffle.  The unfortunate part is when my wife turned it off, so I didn't hear a dog get in and take out half my flock. Sad day.

Most wifi signals and range extenders only reach perhaps 100 feet. Is there anywhere half way between with an outlet, where you could plug in a range extender?

If you get a very good extender, and switch from the standard antennas to 7 or 9 db antennas, you might be able to get the signal.
