is it normal for a 3 to 4 month old RIR to be mating

title says it all i seen one of my RIRs mating one another and there all only 3 to 4 months old 

Bearded White,Black,Columbian,Buff,Blue,Partridge,Splash,Self Blue and paint silkies 

i love all silkies any color any shape any form show or not show quality they are just a lovely breed

The behavior is pretty common display of dominance, not always true mating.  Young cockerels of that age "try", if their hormones are kicking up.  But, pullets will also jump other pullets to demonstrate their superiority as well.

ur right but the one i seen mating the other one was deffinatly a rooster tho

Three months old is practicing and four months old is early flush of hormones and quite probably successful mating.

Buncha Outdoor PET chickens, ducks, two Toulouse ganders, and four turkeys. Plus 2 wiener dogs, some bunnies and a rescue cat which owns me. Oh. And a house silkie....
