Poly-foam egg shipping question

i have never had shipped eggs.

Why dont you ship some to yourself and then you will really be able to see the before and after!

I use them for my Legbar eggs and I love them.  It's the only way I will ship eggs.  And customers have had great hatch rates with my eggs being shipped in these.

I have gotten quail eggs shipped this way, although they made the trip in good shape I found them hard to get out of the foam (broke 2 getting them out). hatch rate still unknown but as far as I can tell all are developing on schedule .
 

I just had some buff leghorn eggs shipped to me in them....

The good.... The eggs arrived undamaged and chilled.  That is right,  the foam must of acted like an insulator because the eggs were chilled.  I received 2 batches of eggs at the same time.  The ones in foam were cool and the ones packed in bubble wrap were room temperature.

The bad.... The eggs are mighty hard to REMOVE from the foam.  I had one egg FLY out of the foam and land on another egg still in the foam.  Trust me... I was NOT happy!  Both eggs were cracked.

My hatch.... I hatched almost every egg shipped and not damaged during the SQUEEZING out of the foam process.

I was wary about the foam.  I had heard that the yolks were scrambled during shipping,  BUT I had a FANTASTIC hatch with the foam. 

I had some very expensive eggs shipped recently by a popular BYCer in these polyfoam things, and out of 15 eggs shipped 5 came out, were rolling around, and 3 of the 5 were caved in and cracked.  Many of the rest were difficult to get out.  I feel that if the seller would have just added another layer or 2 of padding at the top, they wouldn't have come out since there was a bit of room inside the lid.  Two chicks did manage to hatch though.

I have used those in the past and felt they weren't really worth the money.  With Araucana eggs they are a little small for the holes and can move around a bit.  I went back to the double wrapping with bubble wrap.  I am kicking around usuing pipe insulation foam though.  You cut it slightly longer than the egg.  Slit it on one side, wrap it around the egg and tape shut.  Wad up a paper towel and stuff in both ends then tape the ends so the paper towel cannot get out.  Then set the eggs in the box with the pointy end down and voila.  Same as the shipping foam only better and cheaper.  Right now I am using cotton batting along with the bubble wrap and am getting good results but like you say, time consuming.
