Dumb dog won't stop eating chicken poop! - Page 6

whew-glad to know it wont kill them!  Im new to the chicken world and have 2 7 week old chicks.  I have 2 dogs who contantly eat their poop! yuck

I know how you can stop all that, if you want to do so.  Ferment your chicken's feed!  It leaves their poop not smelling of much and removes the wasted proteins and sugars that would normally be expelled in the feces, because it is actually being absorbed by the chicken.

I didn't mind my dog eating chicken poop, as I knew it was an added source of protein for him..always gave him a glossy coat and it kept my yard clean..but now that I ferment the feed he has no more interest in it whatsoever.  Now I'm faced with poop everywhere in my yard!!!  he.gif

Good thing about that poop now is that it doesn't stink and doesn't draw flies unless it's cecal poop.  Then the blue bottle flies are interested a little.

I've been wanting to try the fermented feed. Probably going to start soon after everything calms down around here. Everyone that I know who's tried it, loves it.

I wouldn't care so much, except my dog's breath is intolerable. I brought her to the vet in January for a cleaning, spent over $500, she lost 7 teeth, and still it smells so bad I can't sit near her. There's a product to stop them from eating their own poop, but the chickens'?? Eww...

That's easy and it will benefit your chickens also...ferment their feed.  Their food is better digested, leaving nothing that taste good in their poop.  My dog stopped eating chicken poop when I started fermenting their feed and hasn't done it since.  I kind of miss it, kept the yard cleaner....

Now I feel much better, Red, my Lab/Akita mix is not alone.  He too is a member of the poop eating club.

Thank you for this info! I didn't know about fermenting chicken feed, but I'll totally look into that!
