Nearly 2 year old male have not eaten for two days, worried for his health. Any ideas on diseases?

Hi, pea lovers,

my beautiful Henri seems ill. He is always hungry, begging, stealing food, loves snacks, and we feed him following foods:

Poultry grains, 7 grain sprouted bread, tomatoes, eggs, bananas, ginger, chicken, fish, etc. He likes chips and sushi too, but daily, he eats grains, bread, and tomatoes, sometimes egg.

He lives indoors, so not much chance of parasites.

Yesterday, he did not want his bread or grains, today he had nothing at all. I cooked salmon, and he will be curious and sniff and taste, but he spits the food out. I tried all his favorite snacks. None of them seemed to excite him, he tastes it, and drop it on the floor.

He behaves fine, he is curious and hangs out with us, and his wings are not drooping, but he seems a bit more nostalgic with a thoughtful look in his eye.

I am going crazy, worried he will die. He did not eat for two days. And I am not always home to keep an eye on him. If he does not eat tomorrow, I will get really worried.

Please, are there any common diseases? Could this be Spring fever, or the fact, he is becoming 2 years old, a full grown male, maybe missing a hen? Also there is this full moon perigee this weekend with the magnetism...

Thank you for any help

Sorry he is under the weather, hugs.gif

 is he drinking?

You mentioned alot of good pea foods but how long ago did you feed him sushi and was it fresh or leftover?

Does he have plenty of grit to digest all these goodies he gets?

Just thought i would mention a few things i thought of.

Their are others that will chim in when they get on here.

I just noticed you said he ate chips, are you talking about potato chip[s? if so do you give them to him whle cause this can scratch his throat and he will not want to swallow much of anything till it heals, seen mine get a chesse nip caught in his throat when he grab it out of my bag, i know that had to hurt, i thought he was gonna choke to death but he finely got it down and did not eat the rest of the day.

HI,

thank you for the ideas. You may be correct, he seems interested in food, but not in ingesting it. He sleeps a lot today, and pooped very little, because there is nothing to digest. The sushi is always fresh, but it could be chips, or dried piece of bread, that scratched is throat. He gets a bowl of moist bread every day, but he is spoiled so he tosses on the ground, and by the evening, some pieces must be dry and sharp. We will not give him bread anymore.

Today, because I was worried he has no energy, I bought Pediasure baby formula, and used syringe to squirt it in his mouth, so he got some nutrition. We will see if he is better tomorrow, but without regular food, how long should we wait before taking him to some doctor? He is kinda sleepy, but not exactly unsocial.

Thank you for help!

If He is drinking you can give him some sugar water with ploy-vi sol vitamins(no iron)

a few tablespoons of sugar to 1 cup of water and a half a dropper of the vitamins, this will give him some energy. also try dome smashed grapes, he my find them easy to swallow if his throat is bothering him.

He sure is a pretty fella.

PS if you have an avian vet i would take him tomorrow if he is not better, i wished i had a avian vet here, got one for exotics but they do not include birds .

Can you handle him? or does he freak out?

Hehe, he is cute, and honestly he almost changed my mind about having kids. He is too cute for any human to top it!

But, the pediasure I have him, certainly has Iron in it. Is it bad for peafowl?

I will probably take him soon. We have a pretty cool vet, he does avian and exotics.

Now, we always have to wrap Henri in a blanket like a burito, so he does not freak out and cover his head too, so he calms down. I wish there was other way to transport him. Like on a leash....but he is naughty.

How are your peas doing? Any pics?

You are so lucky to have a vet like that, i so wished i did but at least our vet is better than the local hospital... LOL

Very beautiful collection of pets! One day, if we live in a more suitable place, I want to get Henri a hen.

He is better today evening. I made ground chicken, and this is the first time after 3 days, he really ate nice amount of food. I will observe him, and if he gets even better, we will not have to visit a doctor.

Thank you for help!

Glad he is doing better, they scare us sometimes, one of my hens injured herself flying and had i not seen her i would not have known what was wrong.

I lost 1 and even after the autopsy i still did not know why so of course every time one looks off  it causes much concern, but i bought 3 times more than i really wanted just in case something happens to some of them.

You should try to find a white hen for your guy, you could get, whites, pieds, white eyes from their mating.
