I've read about people feeding ground up, dried hot peppers to their chickens as a natural dewormer. I don't have any concerns about my flocks health but I decided this might be a good idea as a natural preventative.
Yesterday i fed each adult bird about 3 tablespoons of wild bird seed that'd been stirred through the dried pepper powder. Much of the powder was left on the ground but they got some as they picked out the seeds.
Today every bird has a crazily, fierly red comb. I mean, they look like glowing coals. And, my rooster, a Coronation Sussex with normally white legs and feet, today has pink legs and feet!
Is this normal? Did I overdose them? The birds sure didn't seem to mind while they were eating it, except that two sneezed. Their behavior and eating habits seem the same today as always.
Any advice or feedback is appreciated.
